Called in as reinforcement by Ex Machina, the team behind GP Explorer’s art direction since the first edition, we brought our Formula 1 experience to Le Mans: tight preparation, and images online after every session.

The context
An event built for screens: drivers from the web, the Bugatti circuit, a huge crowd on site and live. Ex Machina, which has carried the GP’s image since the first edition, was looking for an eye trained in Formula 1 to keep up with the pace of the track.
What we did
Rock-solid preparation before arriving: the layout learnt corner by corner, vantage points scouted, light anticipated. On site, three days of shooting from practice to the podium, and an online gallery fed after every session: qualifying, sprint, race. The GP could communicate in photos while the event was happening, not afterwards.
The result
Our approach
Three days, a single edition, no session that gets replayed. Ex Machina was looking for an eye trained in Formula 1: we came with the method.
The assignment
GP Explorer is lived live, on site and on screen. The images had to follow the same tempo as the race.
The layout learnt corner by corner, vantage points scouted, light anticipated. On site, we no longer search: we shoot.
Ex Machina has handled the GP’s art direction since the first edition. We slipped into their set-up, from the first briefing to the podium.
Qualifying, sprint, race: the gallery is fed throughout the weekend, so that the GP communicates during the event.
Picked up by the official accounts, by the drivers and by the media, often within the hour.
Seven Grands Prix with Overtake Agency taught us to work fast, far from home and under pressure. At Le Mans, that experience made the difference: images ready when they’re needed, not the following Monday.

Seen on Instagram
That is what an up-to-date gallery is for in the middle of a race: during and after the weekend, the GP, the drivers and the media published our photos. 30 posts, 16 accounts, and that’s only part of it.

Behind the scenes
What you don’t see in the photos: the dawn wake-ups, the kilometres on foot, the laughs in the paddock. Pick up a photo and move it.
